An ounce of blood is worth more than a pound of friendship.
Background:
Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13, is one of the largest and most dangerous gangs in the world. They are infamous in the United States because of their preferred use of machete's instead of guns and the violent attacks they do with them. Much like the Surenos and Florencia 13 the 13 in MS-13 is to pay homage to the Mexican Mafia or La eMe, Spanish for the letter M. MS-13 sometimes represent themselves by wearing the colour blue, but are not affiliated with the Crips. Most members also have tattoo's covering the majority of their body to show they are in the gang.
MS-13 was started by a group of teenagers who immigrated to Los Angeles to escape from a vicious civil war in El Savador between Guerillas and the Government. Even though they moved to an entirely different country, the violence didn't stop. Some of the Salvadorians lived in areas controlled by the 18th Street gang, another violent Hispanic street gang. A few of the Salvadorians decided to make a gang themselves, origanally called the Mara Salvatrucha Stoners. The name came from the Spanish word for gang, Mara, and Salvatrucha, which means a Salvadorian peasant trained as Guerilla soldier. The gang originally had few enemies, the would often have parties and hang with the 18th Street gang. Soon the Mara Salvatrucha Stoners became a full fledged gang, selling drugs on the streets and becoming extremely violent. The only problem was, the area they were selling drugs in was turf controlled by 18th Street. Things stopped going so well for the gang in 1990, when a fight broke out at a party and an 18th Street member shot a Mara Salvatrucha member, which started a brutal war between the two gangs.
A lot of the Mara Salvatrucha members had been part of the Guerilla force in El Savador, so they were used to the violence and trained in fighting. The war ravaged on for a while, with Hispanics killing other Hispanics each day, and often innocent people were caught in the crossfire. Eventually the war spun out of control, too many people had been killed. So the Mexican Mafia stepped in, and held a meeting with both gangs to sort out their problems. They decided that 18th Street would control the north, and Mara Salvatrucha Stoners the south. Soon after the Mexican Mafia's intervention the Mara Salvatrucha Stoners dropped the word stoners on their name, and replaced it with the number 13, to pay homage to the Mexican Mafia.
After their initial fued with the 18th Street, the gang grew in numbers vastly, going from a small street gang with a few members to a cartel-like organization with several thousand members spanning multiple countries. Despite multiple attempts by law enforcement, including deporting many members back to their native countries, MS-13 are still one of the strongest (if not strongest) street gang in the United States that operate today.

Membership
The gang is estimated to have over 10,000 gang members in the United States, with several thousand more in Central America. Members are primarily El Salvadorian, although other members are from other areas of Central America.
MS-13 is organized into closely and loosely associated cliques that take orders from central leadership in the United States and El Salvador. Cliques vary in size of members from 10 to 500, with 20-25 being the average size in Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. Cliques are organized with a leader, treasurer and soldier. Meetings are generally held weekly and are staggered so the leadership from one clique can attend another cliques’ meeting.
Since there are no “precise” statistics, it is difficult to estimate number of cliques or the number of members. It has been estimated that MS-13 has over 15,000 members and associates in at least 115 different cliques in 33 states, and these numbers are continually increasing. The areas with the greatest concentration are Southern California, with 20 different cliques and over 4,400 members and associates; New York City, with 24 cliques and over 1,700 members and associates; and the Northern Virginia/Metropolitan D.C. area, with 21 cliques and a total of more than 5,000 members and associates.
The gang is known to heavily recruit school aged members between 10 years of age and up. Gang members are known to hang around middle and high schools to lure prospective members with “skip parties” that offer sex, alcohol and drugs.
Membership into the gang is earned and is typically culminated with a beat or jump in that last 13 seconds. Membership must continually be earned. In severe cases, failure to carry out an order or mission has resulted in death.
Once a member, it is very difficult to leave the gang without severe consequences. One of the only exceptions to participation is if a member has a child and wants to start a family.
Criminal Activities
within the tri-state area, MS-13 has been associated with many violent crimes including weapons trafficking, murder, assault, extortion, robbery, narcotics, marijuana sales and grand larceny auto. Unlike most other street gangs, MS-13 has many international connections. Many members maintain a relationship with the Salvadoran military which provide the gang with a convenient method of trafficking military weapons, such as grenades, M-16 rifles, etc., to the US. MS-13 members will also boobytrap their stash houses with grenades, anticipating police raids. Although military weapons are accessible, semi-automatic pistols are not; and the gang is known to accept pistols as a payment for narcotics. The gang’s propensity for violence should not be underestimated, as they have an apparent link to the Salvadoran civil war, (military training and guerrilla warfare), and must be considered potentially armed and dangerous by law enforcement. Additionally, the Los Angeles Police Department was involved in a military type shootout/standoff with gang members where MS-13 members utilized uniform military tactics and maintained an armed resistance.
They also have been responsible for the execution of three federal agents and numerous shootings of other law enforcement officers nationwide. The gang also conducts a lucrative stolen automobile operation, exporting these cars to South America in exchange for drugs from cartels. In the Queens area, they steal mostly late model Toyotas. MS-13 also deals in extortion through intimidation, which they consider taxation. They will openly extort legal businesses as well as those conducting illegal activities in their territory. For example, the gang might charge a prostitute or narcotics dealer a predetermined fee for operating on their turf. Failure to comply would surely result in violence. Furthermore, as a result of search warrants and arrests, individual police officer’s photographs, scanners and uniforms have been confiscated from gang members who seem to be adept at gathering intelligence on law enforcement agencies.
Ranks
El Jefe: The leader of MS-13, 'the big boss', the guy who controls everything that the gang does.
Mano Derecha: The right-hand of the El Jefe, this guy advises the boss, helping him make difficult decisions and controlling the gang when the Jefe isn't around.
Soldado: The footsoldiers of the gang, these guys have made a name for themselves as a violent and capable individual, but doesn't have the leadership to control the gang.
Cholo: The lowest rank in the gang, he still needs to earn a name for himself and get respected by the other members.
MS-13 gang tattoo's and their meanings
MS-13 GANG tattoo's are Gothic which means they are very dark spirited . You will see plenty MS-13 GANG members with 666 tatted on them . They ink teardrops. Tear-drops under their left eye represent a shot or a wounded gang member and those under right eye represent their combat with the rival gangs. The fist (above) of one of the convict shows tattoos of a club and a spade symbol over the ‘M’ and ‘S’ to hide his association since depating from MS-13. The whole thing earlier read ‘GMSP’ across four fingers where ‘G’ and ‘P’ stood for his territory Greenspoint. MS-13 gang tattoos reveal specialties of gang members; one expert in dealing with explosives had a grenade tattooed on his back.
Many Mara Salvatrucha members cover themselves in tattoos. Common markings include "MS", "Salvatrucha", the "Devil Horns", the name of their clique, and other symbols. A December 2007 CNN internet news article stated that the gang was moving away from the tattoos in an attempt to commit crimes without being noticed.
Members of Mara Salvatrucha, like members of most modern American gangs, utilize a system of hand signs for purposes of identification and communication. One of the most commonly displayed is the "devil's head" which forms an 'M' when displayed upside down. This hand sign is similar to the same symbol commonly seen displayed by heavy metal musicians and their fans. Founders of Mara Salvatrucha borrowed the hand sign after attending concerts of heavy metal bands
Everyone knows the MS-13 GANG sign is the devil horns. But there is a much more intrecit form called "stacking".Stacking is how they spell who is in their gang with their hands. This how they tell other gang members what gang their from and who is in their clique. But it also could mean much more than that. When there gonna fight they pretend their gonna take there shirt off to signify other MS-13 members. When there gonna stab they'll brush their shoulders off .When there gonna shoot they'll rub their belly.
Conclusion and the future
MS-13 is spreading at a fast pace. Not only are they located in 33 states in the US, and in most of Central America, but recently, traces of them have been seen in Europe. Most of the gangs have started because of the unequal conditions in inner-city communities. Immigrants start their own way of of achieving the “American Dream.” Right now, there is nothing we can do to stop this gang or solve this problem. Now, this is in the hands of the FBI, because this gang is extremely overly strong for local authorities. However, future adjustments can be done to prevent evolvement of gangs. Instead of deporting gang members, or immigrants that are connected to gangs, programs should be developed in which these individuals can prosper from. An alternative, for those who are criminals, send them to jails that are occupied by other members. This way, it will hinder the gang’s growth, because they have the potential of becoming the deadliest gang in the Western hemisphere.

Rules
1. Always respect other members of the gang, any disrespect towards other members of the gang will not be taken lightly to.
2. Always listen to higher up ranks in the gang, especially if it is the El Jefe who tells you to do something.
3. Never bring police to the barrio. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves or have a large shootout in our barrio, as this is not RP in any way.
4. Never go on drugs/weapons deals on your own. This is the easiest way to get robbed/busted and should never happen.
5. Don't make alliances or start wars with other gangs without the presence of the El Jefe.
6. If somebody you don't know approaches the gang don't be hostile. As much as everyone enjoys killing everybody they see, it is not RP, try to start fights as little as possible.
7. No apps. Our recruiting is done purely In Character.
8. Joining the gang gives us the right to FK you if we feel it necessary.
Punishments:
First violation: A 13 second beating from higher members of the gang.
Second violation: Another 13 second beating and get put down a rank (If you are a Cholo this will lessen your chances of being put up a rank).
